Blaize Whitehead

Blaize Whitehead is an experienced competitive sporting clays shooter and a certified NSCA Level 1 Instructor. He fell in love with the game when he shot a fundraiser for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society, and his passion for the sport gets stronger all the time.

After shooting for five years, he started competing in major events in 2020. The experience and knowledge gained from those tournaments help him with his own game and while coaching others.

AIM Shooting School has been critical in his growth. He started by building a foundation with Anthony I. Matarese Jr. and still works with Anthony on the mental and physical parts of the game. He is already a member of the NSCA Pro Squad with many more achievements ahead of him.

M&M Sporting Clays is Blaize’s home base for shooting and coaching, but he is available to coach at other clubs as well. He works with students of all skill levels, from novices to Master Class competitors.

David Dalu

David Dalu hunted and shot recreationally for many years before he decided to get serious about competition sporting clays. He has worked with Anthony since the late summer of 2018 and attended his first Nationals that fall. He punched into Master Class the following spring, and after a follow-up lesson, he placed first in AA Class on the NSCA Championship Tour and earned FITASC All-American honors in his first full year of competition.

David credits his success to learning the AIM methodology, hard work, and the support of a small group of friends and competitors. He believes Anthony’s teachings are accessible and translatable, and that no one can match Anthony’s competitive resume and passion for the game.

In his personal life, David spent 22 years as an ER physician and has raised three children with his wife, a pediatric ER physician. He coaches a high school sporting clays team, has taken several P&Y archery trophies, and is an avid fly and offshore angler in the Florida Keys, having won multiple tarpon fly fishing tournaments. David was a proud member of Team USA at the 2025 FITASC World Championship in Cyprus.

A.I.M. Shooting Team| Matt_Miller

Matt Miller

Born into a bird-hunting family, Matt Miller began shooting a shotgun as a child while dove hunting with his father. In 2010, he retired from playing semi-pro paintball and transferred his passion for competition and shooting to sporting clays. He reached Master Class and took his first lesson with Anthony in 2017, before the birth of his first child, in hopes of developing a path for improvement despite the limited time and financial resources available to a new father. The results were transformative, and his shooting improved exponentially.

Matt began competing at the national level in 2021 and has since reached the podium at mega-blasts and state championships. He also made the All-State Open Team recognition in Georgia, among the most competitive states in the country.

Today, he competes at events from the local to international level, while balancing a full-time construction consulting career and being a full-time father of two kids. He continues to improve through Anthony’s instruction and mentorship, always grinding to achieve his goal of being among the best true amateurs.

Grace-Corselli_AIM_Shooting-Team

Grace Corselli

Grace picked up a shotgun at 5 years old. Born into a family of hunters, she soon became an upland game enthusiast. In an effort to improve her wing shooting, she joined a local sporting clay range. Shortly after, Grace discovered competitive sporting clays, awakening her competitive spirit. She has made many sacrifices and worked tirelessly to perfect her game.

Within two short years, she was competing at the highest level. After placing third at the Western Regional, she qualified for the NSCA Pro Squad. She also won the California State Championship and, after graduating from high school, turned to shooting at Lindenwood University, a top collegiate program. She resolved to master all six clay target disciplines shot by college teams, and working with Anthony gave her the advantage she needed.

Anthony has helped Grace with mechanics and balance, advanced target theory, and developing the mental mindset of a champion. Recently, they devoted an entire session to preparing to win HOA at the ACUI Collegiate Nationals in Texas. Armed with Anthony’s advanced instructional coaching, Grace accomplished her goal and obtained her fifth national collegiate title. Michael Keene_AIM_Shooting-Team

Michael Keene

Michael Keene began his shooting career in 2009 when he first shot sporting clays in upstate New York. Instantly hooked, he shot recreationally for years thinking he could hit anything with a shotgun as long as he looked hard at it. That mentality took his game far enough to beat a few guys at his local club, but not far enough to be competitive in NSCA registered tournaments.

A few years after his first tournament, Michael began working with Anthony, who helped him develop a strong technical and mental framework for his game. Since then, he’s become a top local shooter and learned there’s more to the game than he ever thought possible. He’s looking forward to the next step of his shooting journey.

Darren considers himself a student of the game. When he’s not competing, you’ll find him watching top shooters and learning anything he can from them on and off the course.

In 2023, Darren began working with Anthony, who helped him gain a strong understanding of the technical and mental aspects of the game. He plans to continue shooting competitively in college.

He began training with Anthony in 2008. He considers Anthony to have an unparalleled passion for teaching combined with a world-class ability to analyze and communicate. Anthony’s mentorship has been instrumental in elevating Bill’s game and accelerating his progress.

A.I.M. Shooting Team| Jared_Rumer

Jared Rumer

Jared discovered sporting clays in 1995, at age 12 — not as a shooter, but as a part-time trapper at a local sporting clays club. Not long after that, he was pouring all of his earnings into shooting sporting clays and skeet.

In 1996, Jared began competing in both disciplines and has since shot more than 160,000 NSCA-registered targets throughout the United States. After 10 years of shooting, Jared felt that he was beginning to stagnate and booked his first lesson with Anthony I. Materese Jr. in the summer of 2005. Anthony’s coaching has proved invaluable, and Jared has gone on to achieve many All-American honors, HOA at more than a dozen state championships, and placements at many other events throughout the country. He consistently is a member of the NSCA National Championship Pro Squad.

A.I.M. Shooting Team| Andrea Seefeldt Knight

Andrea Seefeldt Knight

After retiring from her career as a professional jockey (winning 605 races and becoming the third woman to ride in the Kentucky Derby and the Preakness, among other accomplishments), Andrea sought a safer competitive outlet. She found sporting clays and soon connected with Anthony.
After only a year of training with Anthony, she won FITASC C Class at her first Nationals. She has registered 110,000 targets, is a perennial All-American, placed Lady RU 2019 ICTSF World English in Ireland, and won the Maryland Lady State Championship five times.

She has taken the knowledge imparted by Anthony and is passing it on to her own students. Anthony’s target-setting course also gave her the skills needed to manage a public five-stand facility, and she continues to study the other learning resources from the AIM Shooting School, including videos and books.

Carrie-Metheny_AIM_Shooting-Team

Carrie Metheny

Carrie Metheny of Roanoke, Virginia, started shooting recreationally in 2020 and started competing in 2021. Since she moved through classes quickly, she worried that a lesson would stall her progress. Her first session with Anthony proved her wrong.

She is impressed by Anthony’s ability to communicate and explain concepts in a way that enables her to take the knowledge imparted during lessons and apply it effectively in practice and competition. Whenever she encounters a problem, Anthony is quick to provide a clear explanation and multiple solutions. She feels confident in seeking Anthony’s advice on any matter and credits his guidance with helping improve her mental game.

Ryan began shooting at age 5 alongside his dad, Bill, and shot his first 25 straight in trap when he was 8. He took a long break from shooting to focus on football, playing for two Division I programs before returning to clays in 2023.

Ryan quickly began taking lessons with Anthony, whose unique ability to break things down in a way that makes sense has helped sharpen Ryan’s technique and changed his mental approach. With Anthony’s steady coaching and a renewed passion for shooting, Ryan continues to build momentum, grow as a competitor, and push to keep improving.

He shot his first competition at age 16 and soon took his first lesson with Anthony. Over the years, Anthony has taught Matt how to approach all types of targets and how to develop a strong mental game.

From 2014 to 2018, Matt shot for Lindenwood University, winning four ACUI team National Championships and an individual national championship. He has made multiple NSCA All-American teams and stood on the podium in multiple events in regionals, national championships, and numerous other big blasts.

Dustin Maroon_AIM_Shooting-Team

Dustin Maroon

After just two years of competing, Dustin Maroon punched in to Master Class in 2020. That same year, he took three lessons with Anthony and has since won two Ohio state championships and several other titles.

He says that working with Anthony gave him a complete understanding of the game as they covered technique, strategy, mental discipline, and every other skill needed to compete and win. Anthony’s straightforward, no-nonsense approach and consistent hard work have given Dustin the confidence needed to compete at the highest level.

As a teacher for 20 years, Dustin also credits his work with Anthony to help him become a better coach for students in Ohio, Michigan, and Indiana.

John Brinckerhoff

John Brinkerhoff is raising two daughters with his wife, Leigh, and is COO of an investment management firm with over $2.1 billion in assets. That makes his sporting clays career a balancing act, as family comes first, work second, and then he can pursue his other passions.

He began shooting registered targets in 2020 and progressed quickly to Master Class with a few lessons from Wendell Cherry and regular help from Bill Yacktman. Toward the middle of 2021, he thought his progress was stalling, and he struggled with consistency. Anthony’s reputation as the nation’s most accomplished shooter and coach prompted John to reach out to him to see if he could keep improving without wasting time or capital. Fellow AIM team member Devin Anderson introduced John to Anthony, and what transpired propelled his shooting.

John believes Anthony has helped him focus on the process and work, resulting in frequent positive results. He says the tools Anthony helped him develop allow him to be competitive more frequently, even as the rest of life continues to speed up.

Jeff Thomason

Jeff developed a love for shooting shotguns at an early age while hunting pheasants with his dad. One too many dirty looks from his hunting dog, Mollie, motivated him to try to become a better shot.

At 46, he shot his first round of sporting clays. His score of 47/100 and his desire to improve led him to Anthony’s first video, “Timed to Win.” Jeff watched the video repeatedly and incorporated the AIM techniques on the clay field. After some local success, Jeff sought out Anthony for in-person lessons. Under Anthony’s tutelage, Jeff won Colorado State FITASC Championships in 2023 and 2024 and achieved a personal goal of being a top 100 shooter at the 2024 National Sporting Clays Championship.

Jeff recently retired as chief pilot for the Denver Police Department’s helicopter unit. He has moved with his wife and daughter to Texas, where he is an instructor pilot.
